Yolngu Dhukarr - Cultural Expedition
Lirrwi Yolngu Tourism Aboriginal Corporation, in association with various Yolngu homelands in the East Arnhem Region of the Northern Territory, is developing a seven day, six night cultural expedition that will visit three remote homelands.
These tours will have a set monthly departure from July 2013 with a minimum group size of four and a maximum group size of 12.
Lirrwi Yolngu Tourism's role is to provide the booking and administration functions as well as transport, catering and tented accommodation. The cultural experience will be provided by the participating homelands.
Activities and experiences involved would be as follows:
Participants will also visit some of Australia's most beautiful and undiscovered locations hosted by the Traditional Owners.
This program provides an opportunity for Yolngu on remote homelands to share their culture with visitors and provides an economic base for them to be able to remain on country and maintain their culture. Tourism of this kind, which is developed by Yolngu for Yolngu allows for multiple generations of family members to participate. Lirrwi works in consultation with up to 10 homelands involved in the program to ensure that all locations have the opportunity to participate, learn and earn from tourism. It also provides the market with a reliable product as there will always be three homelands available to deliver the experience. Most importantly, it means that tourism does not dominate the cultural life of homelands because it allows flexibility for particular homelands to opt out at short notice should their be a death or other ceremonial commitments.
The price of this tour is AUD3,000 per person.
Lirrwi encourages those interested in this experience to complete the Expression of Interest form (right) so that we can understand more about our potential customers, their interests and needs.
From there customers need to complete an online booking form and indemnity form, before being issued with an invoice that must be paid in full prior to departure.
